On the weekend of 26-27th January, the second public Australia-wide LEGO® convention, Brickvention 2008, was held in Melbourne. There were a myriad of activities to keep AFOLs busy - a summary follows. Contests:Speed BuildThis was a contest to find the fastest person to build the Cool Cars set, 4939. The winners were:
Polybag BuildThis year, we had 2 rounds, and we used the new Creator sets, Mini Trains (4837) and Mini Vehicles (4838). Because not all the parts in these sets are in 1 bag, they were pre-opened and the parts put in a stapled zip-loc bag. All contestants built the Mini Train main model in the first round, with the 10 fastest going to the second round to build the Mini Vehicles model. The winner was the person to build their set quickest without opening the bag. The 10 finalists were Aaron A, Troy, Ryan, Richie, J.P., Matt, Ben H, Aaron P, Peter and Damien. The winners were:
Best at ShowVoted by other registered attendees for the best overall MOC. There were lots of great MOCs to choose from, so it was pretty difficult. Winners were:
RaffleA raffle was held, with 4 prizes available. The winners were:
We were also able to secure a copy of each of the new Indiana Jones sets to auction - with the condition that the winners had to build the model to display in the public expo. There were also activities to keep the public amused, including Brikwars demos, a play area with Duplo® and System bricks, some remote control cars and bulldozers, and a trade area where they could buy almost anything they wanted. In the end there were around 30 registered attendees, and 330 guests on public day. The organisers would like to thank all the sponsors:- LEGO® Australia, and Moore Educational.
